Rehoming a Pet
Unfortunately, our shelter is very full and funding is extremely limited. We have compiled the resources below for people who are looking to rehome a cat or another pet. Keep in mind that animal rescue organizations are often overwhelmed, so please make every effort to rehome your pet yourself before surrendering.
Discovered a Pet Allergy?
The allergy situations are so hard. Here are a couple of articles to help while you look for a good home.

Online Options for Rehoming a Pet
At no cost, you can list your pet for sale on Adoptapet.net, Rescueme.org, or Craigslist.org. Make sure to include a heartwarming description (age, temperament, etc.) and photos of your pet, your story and a rehoming fee.
You can also post pictures and a call for help on your social media accounts. Facebook is very active for rehoming. If you don't have a Facebook account, you could have a friend post for you. Here are some Facebook groups to get started:

Adoption Events
Windmill Animal Rescue doesn't take their animals to adoption events, but you might want to contact some other shelters and ask if you can bring the cat to one of their events. Explain that you will take your pet home with you if a new home is not found. Any adoption fee would generally be paid right to the shelter instead of to you. Pet Supplies Plus, Petco and PetSmart are possible resources, as they welcome various shelters to hold adoption events.
After a Home is Found
Make sure to obtain the name, address, phone number and email for the person adopting your pet, and call after a few weeks to check in. If the person is renting, call to make sure it is okay for them to have the animal before letting it go with them.
If applicable, ask the person to sign a statement saying they will have the pet spayed/neutered, or look into getting it done before rehoming. Heart of Minnesota has several options for low cost spay/neuter programs in the Twin Cities area. Purple Cat is an awesome organization in Wisconsin. Baldwin, WI, is only an hour drive from the Twin Cities.
